Crew management is undoubtedly one of the most complex elements of the maritime industry. Ensuring that the right people are in the right place at the right time is a like a jigsaw puzzle where the solution is constantly evolving. All it takes is for one piece of the problem to alter, and the whole approach to resolving it changes focus.

The role of the crew manager has become even more intense since the onset of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Suddenly, a whole new set of barriers has been placed in their path as they attempt move the pieces of the puzzle. As is borne out by the Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing, restrictions on movement and travel have caused a humanitarian crisis which at one point saw 400,000 seafarers stranded on vessels across the world.

Mintra believes that when a puzzle is shared, the chances of reaching an effective resolution are increased. Over the past 30 years, we have become a trusted technology partner of the maritime industry. Our digital learning and human capital management software solutions are designed to meet the operational challenges faced by maritime HR teams, whether in addressing training and competency needs or managing large, multinational workforces.

OCS for Maritime

OCS HR is Mintra’s flagship HR software suite – a complete crew management solution created with the maritime industry in mind. OCS HR is the main module – the engine room - of the solution: it is used by HR teams to automate complex tasks related to people management, from employee administration to crew rotation. Additional modules covering activities such as talent management, international payroll, and travel management can be added in line with client requirements.

OCS HR and its associated modules supports the HR function of over 1,800 vessels – tugs, tankers, ferries, research ships and drilling rigs – and manages around 170,000 seafarers. It’s estimated that OCS HR allows one system administrator to manage up to 300 employees.
